Itinerary: 6 days tour from Marrakech
Day 1: Marrakech → Atlas Mountains → Ouarzazate
On the first day of your 6-day desert tour, you’ll depart from Marrakech and head towards Ouarzazate, crossing the Tizi N’Tichka Pass at 2260 meters. Along the way, you’ll stop to capture panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and picturesque Berber villages. After a break for lunch, you’ll continue to the famous Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its appearances in films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. From here, head to Ouarzazate where you can visit the Atlas Film Studios and explore the Kasbah of Taourirt. Your day ends with dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel in Ouarzazate.
Day 2: Ouarzazate → Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Rissani → Merzouga
After breakfast, your journey continues to the stunning Todra Gorge, a renowned destination for rock climbing. Here, you can take a short walk along the river and marvel at the towering cliffs. From Todra Gorge, drive to Tinjdad for lunch before heading towards Merzouga. On the way, you’ll pass through Erfoud, where you’ll have the chance to visit a fossil workshop. Continue to the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you’ll board a camel for a ride to a desert camp. Day 3: Merzouga Off-Road Adventure & Exploration
Start your day early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After enjoying breakfast at the desert camp, return to your hotel for a shower and rest. Then, embark on an off-road exploration of the surrounding desert, where you’ll visit small Berber villages, fossil sites, and meet nomadic families. Return to your hotel for some relaxation, and in the evening, enjoy a festive dinner accompanied by local drum music. Overnight at the hotel in Merzouga.
Day 4: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Errachidia → Midelt
After breakfast, you’ll travel to Midelt, passing through Erfoud, Errachidia, and the Tizi N’Talghom Pass at 1907 meters. Stop in Rissani to explore the local souk and visit the Zawiya Moulay Ali ash-Sharif. Continue to Errachidia, known for its military history, and enjoy a stop at the panoramic view of the Aoufous Oasis. Continue along the Ziz River, passing through the Ziz gorges and the French-built Tunnel Du Légionnaire. Your journey continues through the Middle Atlas, and you’ll spend the night in a hotel in Midelt.
Day 5: Midelt → Azrou → Ifrane → Fes
On the fifth day, you’ll travel to Fes, passing through the Middle Atlas mountains. Stop in Azrou to visit the famous Cedar Forest, home to Barbary macaque monkeys. Continue to Ifrane, known as “Moroccan Switzerland,” where you’ll see the stone lion and have a chance to take a photo.
